How to make sure your house is safe when you’re travelling
One of the most stressful parts of travelling is knowing whether your house is safe when you are away or not. There are several ways that you can ensure that you keep your house safe when away.
Some of these tips are simple while some require some costs. It is however advisable to choose the cheapest option available so as to be able to cut down on some costs. Some of the simple tips you can try out include;
1. Call a relative
This is actually the cheapest and safest method to ensure that the house remains safe when you are gone. You can contact your nephew or niece to come and stay at your house when you are away.
The only cost involved in this method is probably maintenance costs. You can leave him or her some money so as to be able to sustain them during the period. It is however important to ensure that you choose a responsible person for this job. Apart from this, it is usually helpful to ensure that you lock some of the private rooms.
2. Avoid publicizing your trip
Most people make a mistake of telling everybody about their trip. It is important to take note that thieves may get access to this information and wait for you to leave. This includes posting on social media and the web as a whole.
This is why it is highly advisable to avoid publicizing your trip. Furthermore, it is better to alert the local police that you will not be present for certain duration of time. This will allow them to patrol around the area more.
3. Curtains and light timers
When leaving ensure that the curtains appear the same as they would in the case that you were home. The main reason behind this is that in the case that you leave them closed neighbors will not be able to alert the police when they view suspicious activity around your house.
For the case of lighting, most people make mistake of leaving the light on so as appear as if someone is home. This should not be the case since the bill will be high. The best way is to use a light timer so that it may appear as though someone is switching the lights on and off.
